“Album opener and current single, The Wide Horizon gets things off to a rollicking start, before slipping into Scotland. There’s a power and unexpected beauty in the lyrics behind this particular song and I found myself hypnotised by the picture Coggan so masterfully creates in homage to his Celtic roots.
This unique storytelling – a big feature in much of Coggan’s music, continues in A Beautiful Ride. Though it may be a little less upbeat than previous tracks, it is no less majestic as he sings, “I will love you forever/I will hold you ‘till the end of time/Like a softly falling feather.”
Of all the songs on the album, Hughie & Seventeen are probably the ones I like most, as they combine Coggan’s knack for storytelling with his strong vocal ability.”

“The Wide Horizon could well be one of the most highly anticipated albums on the Australian country music calendar for 2017. Singer-songwriter Darren Coggan is back with a range of songs that blend to form a work that makes you want to slide it into your car stereo and hit the road. As well as celebrating the country we live in and a couple of songs that have defined Australian music, The Wide Horizon also celebrates Darren’s love for his wife and children.”

Darren Coggan is not only one of our finest country music artists, he is also an amazingly diverse entertainer. His War Stories album and stage show was one of the most amazing contributions that I have seen or heard in this country. He has starred as Richie Cunningham in a Happy Days theatre production and his Peace Train – Cat Stevens’ Show has toured the country and has become a sellout programme in Australia. He is now taking the show to the U.K. Add to all of that, his shows with Michael Fix and his show in Tamworth this year which attracted amazing reviews, then you have one hell of a package.
This album is long awaited. It has been a while between albums and this album is as diverse as his career has been. Very few musicians in Australia can equal Darren’s strength in all of the areas of entertainment that he ventures into. This album is a polished, beautifully produced example of how several genres can come together to make a gem. Darren Coggan never disappoints. His arms embrace a plethora of musical avenues but he never falls short of excellence. With his distinctive voice, insight, incredible messages and uniquely Australian perspective, this is another triumph.

“Your version of the National Anthem was one of the best – if not the best! – I’ve heard in my long years of working in events. It was a cracker!”
Tony Pipe - Manager, Department of Premier and Cabinet
“Your performances at Australia Day were fantastic, and you brought something new to the National Anthem – not easy to do! It had a real Australia Country flavour to it, which was greatly appreciated by the crowd, and worked really well. Great to work with you again!”
John Foreman - Musical Director 2013 NSW Australia Day Luncheon
“It was the boy from Wagga Wagga, Darren Coggan, who emerged as the evening’s king of hearts. Coggan has a fresh, powerful, expressive voice, and whether it was ‘Back In My Hometown’ or ‘I Got Plenty of Nuthin’, he just oozed style.”
