Mackay Entertainment Centre – Melbourne Cup Day

on November 7, 2012. Posted in Gigs, War Stories Regional Tour 2012

Thankyou Mackay for two wonderful shows at the magnificent Mackay Entertainment Convention Centre. It was lovely to catch up with my great friends Graeme & Lyn Connors and their family for a meal (superb fine dining – folks if you are ever in Mackay you must, must, must, have a meal at their restaurant aptly titled ‘BURP’ – it’s incredible!) and I sincerely appreciated them coming to the show amongst their hectic schedules.

It was the Tuesday in November when they run the Melbourne Cup and my day started off as usual with a walk around the town, however this walk quickly escalated into a run when I was dive bombed for about two blocks by a magpie who was intent on using my head as target practice, arrgghh!!!

Fortunately, I found refuge at the TAB and put on a couple of hot tips for ‘The Cup’ (I think the horses are still rounding the last turn – didn’t hear their names mentioned once!).

Onto our show and the first matinee for this Queensland run was outstanding, possibly the show of the tour with 450 people attending. A very gratifying aspect was the wonderful response we had from the 200+ high school students from Proserpine who were really into the spirit of the show.

It is always lovely to be at the foot of the Whitsunday’s and once again Mackay didn’t disappoint!
